Low Pants = Jail Time

Wearing saggy pants in the city of Flint (USA) is now officially classified as Criminal Behaviour: it can send you to jail for 93 days to a year and/or $500 in fines.
Police Chief David Dicks, who took over the Flint (yes, that same Flint from Moores’ Roger and Me) police department last month on an interim basis, announced that his officers would start arresting people wearing saggy pants that expose skivvies, boxer shorts or bare bottoms.
Complete lowdown (ha!) here (via Tobias)
I think people who pull their jeans up all the way to their shoulders should also be sent to jail - perhaps even a bit longer.
Seven Songs Meme Is Go
The infamous Rubbishcorp tagged me - already a few weeks ago and alongside MC Hammer - for a ‘7 favorite songs for spring/summer’ meme type thing. I’ve taken my time to come up with a good list. Because this ain’t easy. And I’m not sure if the aim is nighttime boogie or daytime dreaminess?
Anyway, I chose a mix of both:
- The Egg - Venice Beach
- Cut Copy - Future
- Cut Copy - Unforgettable Season
- Aril Brikha - Berghain
- Alex Gopher - Brain Leech
- Crystal Castles - Courtship Date
- Aphex Twin - Alberto Balsam
I’ll probably keep editing this post until end of times..
Firefox, Safari Are Kicking IE Booty
I knew Firefox was conquering ground fast. But not *this* fast: Google Analytics shows visitors to this blog (measured from July last year) have been 40% Firefox users vs. 27% Internet Explorer users. That’s quite strong numbers for Firefox!

But what surprised me most is that Safari is coming up fast with 26% - only 1% to go to kick Internet Explorer of the second lap. That’s some pretty good numbers for my favorite browser.
I’m quite pleased with the 0,19% PSP users too ;)
The CBA (= Client Bravery Award)
Most of the times its the creatives/agencies that get honoured for coming up with great work. But if a client isn’t signing of great ideas and concepts you are left with nothing*. In a time where great work is becoming much more about doing stuff that hasn’t been done before, or doesn’t fit a certain media like radio/print/tv/banners, its the clients that dare to be different that’ll enable agencies to do great work.

So that’s why I think there’s room for yet another award in the already cramped award-roster of the advertising industry, something like ‘The CBA’ - The Client Bravery Award. I think people from various agencies should be in the jury. Perhaps a people’s voice award, too.
I’m wondering who would be good nominees for the CBA 2008 Gold? Or perhaps there’s even a Grand Prix nominee? A Lifetime Achievement?
* Ofcourse not-signed-off work can still see the light of day; in Holland for example there is the ‘Slash ‘n Burn Awards‘, an award show for rejected work (although I think its not running anymore).
All Right STOP! Collaborate and Listen,
…Vanilla Ice is back with a brand new invention!?
For a minute I thought he was. But then I discovered he wasn’t back and this wasn’t an invention. It is just another ad for ‘Ice Ice’ Baileys.

I couldn’t stop myself from replacing the models’ head with Vanilla’s head though.
I think it makes it a bit better. Here’s the original model:

I’m Lovin’ The Toe Jam
Check out this great videoclip directed by Keith Schofield for BPA’s - ‘Toe Jam’. BPA (Brighton Port Authority) is Fatboy Slim feat. David Byrne & Dizzee Rascal.
(Thanks Reza and Woes!)
Knight Rider GPS With KITT Voice
This Knight Rider-themed GPS unit from MIO has voice prompts recorded by the one-and-only William Daniels, the original voice of KITT, and asks cordially “Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?” when powered up. The LCD display is also flanked by a series of red LEDs reminiscent of KITT’s nose-mounted lights.
Nice gizmo but somehow the voice sounds quite a bit different than the KITT I remember.
Is it me or does this actually sound more like a James Bond?
The C64 Orchestra

I went to Paradiso yesterday evening to check out the C64 Orchestra.
What a great concept: Classic Commodore 64 videogame tunes like IK+, Commando and Monty on the Run played by an orchestra. And its not just a gimmick, some of the tunes actually sound like they were made for this. Check out the C64 Orchestra on Myspace.
Here’s Four Of My ‘Most-Played’ Albums
Here’s four albums that have been clogging up my ‘most-played’ listing lately… Some new some old.

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours (2008)
It feels as if aussies Cut Copy picked up where pop music as a genre ’stopped’ in the late eighties. All songs will remind you of gone gods from gone times; Fleetwood Mac, Roxy Music, Human League, Erasure, etc. Not blatantly copied but mixed up with current vibes and production techniques. A step forward from its predecessor Bright Like Neon Love.
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (2008)
Typical 8-bit synth pop. Although I’m recommending this album I don’t like all 100% of it (skip that distorted shouty stuff like XXZXCUZX Me and Love and Caring) - but there certainly are some great tunes on this album. Recommended if you like that SID chip sound from the Commodore 64 - which was the sountrack to my youth, basically.

Radiohead - In Rainbows (2007)
OK so it’s not very exotic to name an album that must be on just about everyone’s favorite list. But its such a great album I just have to list it. Saw them playing a two+ hour set yesterday here in Amsterdam. Thom Yorke’s amazing voice, the tightness of the band playing together (studio as well as live), its all just incredible. Their best album so far.
Fabric Live 29 - Cut Copy (2006)
IMHO still the number one release on the best ‘commercial mixtape series’ out there: Fabric Live. This has got the best of everything, which makes it quite hard to label; maybe ‘An Eclectic Mix Of Electropop’ will do. Some great lyrics on here - like Munk’s Disco Clown and Whomadewho’s Hello, Empty Room. Not to mention Tiga’s crazy mix of Soulwax’s E Talking. Really can’t recommend this album enough.
Uniqlo Mixplay

New from agency Projector Japan (-who picked up every possible digital award with Uniqlock) for clothing-brand Uniqlo comes the Mixplay sequencer.
Its the kind of thing that’s just nice to fiddle with. Super execution, too.
Just select drums, bass, and off you go, yo.
