Roquefort are Roqueing
My friend Woes from the Roquefort Kru gifted me their first (signed and numbered!) compilation album the other day. RF is a dj collective that play a nice blend of various grooves to make you move, basically. Hear them on Myspace here and check out when they’re roqueing in your stadsdeel.
Let Me Take You Back To Church
When driving to work last week I heard this (quite old) song on the radio. Since then I’ve been playing it quite a lot. I probably missed it at the time since 1988 had me completely occupied with acid house.
You might know it from the movie Donnie Darko, its by australian band The Church and called ‘Under The Milky Way’:
I played it in the Kong Suites today where Sean suprised me with this Wikipedia entry, here’s the interesting bit:
According to a press release , the song was written about an infamous Amsterdam hash bar called The Milky Way (Melkweg) Bar, which Kilbey used to frequent.

We aren’t sure if this is the ‘De Melkweg - Milky Way’ venue they’re talking about or just a random coffeeshop. But if the song is about De Melkweg, then perhaps the band’s name links to the Paradiso venue (which is an old church around the corner) ;)
Amsterdam This Morning at 07:00

Beautiful quiet morning in the city today.
Note to self: Should try and get up early more often.
Adding Value To The Bicycle
We here at Kong like to talk a lot about this thing we call Adding Value To The Web. It basically means that we like to come up with digital ideas that people like, that are helpful or entertaining in an appropriate way.
Today we went out to meet a client in Zwolle by train, and we parked our bicycles in the Central Station bikegarage. When we returned our bicycles’ saddles had been covered in something red?

It turned out to be raincovers from sports-brand Le Coq Sportif.

Nice and simple idea. This is actually useful. I think I can stop putting plastic bags over my saddle when it rains now.
Not sure about the ‘LOVE’ text on it though.. People will sit on the thing when they use it. So they sit on Love? Anyway, thank you Le Coq Sportif.
Van To Some, Canvas To Others
While cycling home today I passed this van.
I can’t help but seeing someone parking his white van in the evening, coming home from work, and then coming back in the morning to pick it up..

New Company!

This evening we went out for drinks to celebrate the kickoff of a really exciting project we are working on. We all think this really is something quite different and we are lucky - blessed - to work with some amazing talent and a great client to get this off the ground and onto this thing we call The Interwebs.
This might all sound a bit vague I guess, but once the ‘soft launch‘ is on, you’ll read about it here..
I’m off for a short holiday now - Big Thanks to Asi Metric for supplying a ton of wicked new tunes & mixes to fill my iPod - nice one mate! : )
‘De Parade’ hits Amsterdam

The yearly outdoor ‘travelling theatre festival’ that is ‘De Parade’ started in Amsterdam (dutch link) last friday.

We enjoyed Bandafobia by De karate Baronnen (dutch link) in Teatro Cuatro. Festival ends august 19th.
We are looking for a Producer - Update
So we’ve landed in the Dam and are setting up a new shop! I’m really excited about it and will tell you more about it here soon. There was an article in the The New York Times last week that said “Not since the Dutch Golden Age has Amsterdam seen such a creative boom”. So if you want to boom along, read on…

This pic was taken in the morning on the Prinsengracht while cycling to work - basically the weather is like this every day in Amsterdam.

We’re a digital start up based in Amsterdam working on international clients. We’d like to think we’re very cosmopolitan and multicultural so don’t worry if you aren’t a local. You will need to speak English, but you don’t need to speak Dutch.
We’re looking for somebody who knows the ins and outs of producing digital projects - it would help if you have some experience in advertising, TV/film or event production but its not necessary. What is necessary to us is that you really love what you do.
We’re working on a whole range of stuff, traditional digital projects but also projects that (we think) haven’t been done before, so you’d have to be a bit of a visionary type person who is not afraid to try and realize things some people think can’t be done.
We’ll offer a really nice workplace and will pay good money to whoever fits this role. This can be either a parttime or fulltime gig. You can start tommorow, but its also OK if you start in a few months.
If you are interested or know of someone, please send an email with your cv.

O HAI
So there you are, at your desk chillin’ on the interwebs, new album by Efdemin on your headphones and all of a sudden you look to the right.

And see this. I mean her.
Then,
She explains JCDecaux sent her,
She gives me a napkin,
Tells me there is pancakes in the agency kitchen,
Because JCDecaux took over a thing called Wall?
On the napkin is a picture of the Brandenburger Tor
and the Eiffel Tower.
I don’t quite get it.
