Adfoblog / The One Second Super Bowl Ad
One second of commercial airtime during the Superbowl will cost you a whopping $100,000. But that didn’t stop Eels from making a one second ad for their new album ‘Useless Trinkets’. The ad has the band’s frontman Mark Everett saying “EELS - U(..)”. Now let’s see if the blogosphere will give this investment a bit of leverage.
Just make sure you don’t blink when you play this clip!
Update from the band:
“In the end we were told that the NFL would have to find 29 other advertisers to buy one second spots to fill a standard 30 second advertising slot and that they do not sell advertising time by the second,” explained frontman E. “They also noted that a rapid fire 30 second segment of 30 one second commercials could cause people with certain medical conditions to have seizures and that it was against network regulations.”

I like this new Berlitz ad - it is almost as nice as the old one.

Viral In-Game Guerilla Ad
Rapidly moving up towards 10,000,000 users World of Warcraft is the biggest MMORPG on the webbernet today. “Truck Summoner” is a Toyota Tacoma commercial that takes place inside of World of Warcraft, borrowing from last year’s infamous Leroy Jenkins video.
This could fit quite a few categories:
- If they tried doing this in-game for real it would have been an ‘In-Game Guerilla event’ (and piss off a lot of WoW players too),
- Posting this on Youtube and having a million hits makes it A Viral,
- The fact that its an ad in a game makes it In-Game Advertising,
- Releasing it on telly makes it a TV Commercial,
- And the Leroy Jenkins link makes it a Parody, too.

I’m a sucker for simple, clever ideas. Waitless.org, a new online campaign for Sprint done by Goodby Silverstein, fits that description in every way - its got that instant gratification vibe to it.

The time calculator calculates how much time you spend on a certain thing in your life, and ’sprintcuts’ are tutorials on how to do stuff faster so you’ll waste less time doing them.
I really like this.

Adfoblog / 5 seconds

This spanish viral ‘youtube spoof’ wants to draw attention on the importance of donating blood on a regular basis. I like this a lot. Clever, simple, and it only takes 5 seconds, which translates as 5 segons.

Funny idea from the city of Glasgow to try and stop illegal advertisements on the streets: placing signs saying “cancelled” over them.

“Constructed from GE Lexan EXL semi-transparent resin, the billboard accurately blurs the scene behind it regardless of day, weather, or season“
Copywriter Ian Hart on Adscam: “I did this ad with Annie Williams (art director) during my first year at Miami Ad School. I’m glad that some of you have found merit in the idea. Just to answer some speculation, this ad was never presented at an agency, it was simply a class assignment”.

Adfoblog, the weblog of dutch advertising industrymag’ Adformatie, which I have been honored to blog for since it started in 2006, is apparently the 10th most refered-to blog in The Netherlands writes dutch newspaper NRC-next.

Thats pretty good I guess, although I wonder how airtight this all is - since the only source seems to be Google.
