Intriging Booktitle Of The Month II

A while back I posted an entry titled Intriging Booktitle Of The Month. Here’s another one:

I like the combination of title / dramatic picture / authors’ name. Nice. Here’s an executive summary of the book:

This book explains the engine that has catapulted the Internet from backwater to ubiquity—and reveals that it is sputtering precisely because of its runaway success. With the unwitting help of its users, the generative Internet is on a path to a lockdown, ending its cycle of innovation—and facilitating unsettling new kinds of control.

Seems like an interesting read, too. Order from Amazon here.

Windmill FAIL

A friend of mine is scared of passing windmills. There are quite a few at the beachplace we frequent and I guess this is what he’s afraid of:

This clip is taken in Hornslet, Denmark. The windmill broke its breaks, which made it easy for a hefty storm to tear it down completely.

While checking out new stuff at my local bookstore I stumbled upon this:

Huh? A book Shorlisted For The Orange Broadband Prize For Fiction?

I guess this opens up a whole new range of possibilities - how about being shortlisted for lets say The 2008 Volkswagen Touareg Bluetooth Carkit Prize For Foreign Poetry? Or the Intel Quad Core Duo 2 Novel Of The Year?

After consulting Wikipedia I found out the Orange Broadband Prize For Fiction is formerly know as The Orange Prize For Fiction and is one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious literary prizes.

Nice Example Of Youtube Annotations Feature

Check out this nice example of the Youtube annotations feature - doubleclick the clip to view it on Youtube, since this feature doesn’t seem to work in embedded clips? (why not?)

Olympics 2008 BBC Commercial By Gorillaz

This BBC ad is based on the 70’s childrens program ‘Monkey’ and has been animated by Gorillaz animator Jamie Hewlett, with music from Damon Albarn.

Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones

The Chronic 2008 isn’t a new album by superproducer Dr. Dre, but a pair of Dre endorsed high-end headphones from Monster.. Here’s what Dre’s got to say:

beats-by-dr-dre.jpg

People aren’t hearing all the music. Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound, but people can’t really hear it with normal headphones. Most headphones can’t handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line: the music doesn’t move you.

Good point. The standard IPod headphones for example are absolute rubbish, but it seems a lot of people don’t really care. “Beats by Dr. Dre” headphones will go for $399.95 and I’m looking forward to check them out..

MMA (Myspace Model Agency)

Fashion brand Costume National chose its models for the Fall / Winter 2008 campaign for their CNC line not from a model agency but by ’scouting’ Myspace in the way that modelscouts roam the streets of inner city shopping streets.

Designer Ennio Capasa chose 11 non-models which he announced on his Myspace profile page. Models where rated not only on looks but also on creativity.

Campaign microsite here. CN also have a blog and youtube channel.

Creator stianhafstad writes:

I was a bit bored last week, so I edited some old Bert & Ernie episodes to the sound of M.O.P.’s Ante Up.

Its on 50k users now, wondering to see how this will ‘long-tail’. The M.O.P guys must be very happy with this guy!
